Welcome to Image Database CAB Based on Central Asian Bees !

Japanese page is here

CAB is an image database of Central bees based on the Central Asian Bee Project by the Kyushu University (Head Investigator: O. Tadauchi). The expedition was conducted nine times in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan and Xinjiang Uygur, China from 2000 to 2004 and from 2012 to 2014. It includes images taken with the cooperation of the Department of Hymenoptera, Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, and the Biology Centre in Linz, Austria as well as based on our Central Asian Bee Collection in Kyushu University. Our project is named "Field Studies of Wild Bee Fauna and Pollination Biology for Combating Desertification and Planting Campaign in Asian Arid Areas". The aims of the project are as follows: l) To search and discover useful pollinating insects in semidesert areas, 2) To collect wild bees in semidesert areas and to conduct taxonomic and biogeographical studies, and 3) To study pollinating and nesting behaviors of the useful bees and 4) to suggest preservation strategies for useful insects.

Report of a Central Asian Bee Project (in Japanese) (http://konchudb.agr.agr.kyushu-u.ac.jp/xcabproject/)

CAB (Central Asian Bees) is a species information database mainly based on Central Asian bees, including images. Each record is composed of 12 items, namely family, genus and species (or subspecies) scientific names, distribution, sex of the type, type locality, type depository, source of the original description, synonymies, references, notes and images.

The CAB database is managed by a text database management system SIGMA.

The CAB database is supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Publication of Scientific Research Results (Head Investigator: Osamu Tadauchi) from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

The data on the genus Andrena (Family Andrenidae) is open to the public at present. The use of data in this database is free of charge for academic study or educational purposes.
